Sticks and Stones

“Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you… unless you believe them. Then, they can destroy you.” “I'd rather have names to hurt me, than my bones broken with sticks and stones.”

Ethan J Smith..said a mouthful! I never knew that this quote continued past the "words will never hurt me" part.

Your mind is a powerful weapon. If you believe the negative things that people say to you or that you say to yourself...it will destroy you. I always tell people, I am my worst enemy. I spent years trying to beat people to the punch. I would say, "I am fat and this outfit doesn't fit right" or "Eww, crop my stomach out this picture. My face is aiight..but my body won't let me be great." Before anyone else could, because I honestly believed I was taking the power of them hurting me away from them. I always said it jokingly..but I meant it. All I was doing was etching those negative words into my permanent psyche and I started believing those things. Which is why now...compliments make me uncomfortable and I take pictures to see the beauty you see. On a positive note: The self care and self work is working to build self love!

Words are powerful. I try daily to correct the words my children speak. I try to speak life into everyone I meet. It is hard when you are unable to do it for yourself. But, I know God is holding and protecting me. So, the little oil I have, that I use to pour on someone else will not run out. He will fill me up so much that I will have an overflow. My best friend Timkeydia Smith has a podcast with her husband on Saturdays. On one of the episodes, she talked about during her dark times she kept repeating positive words over herself and her life until she believed them and came out on the other side. Sometimes you have to speak over yourself in order for you to reclaim your life and your strength.

Words can incite riots or make someone kill themselves. The right words from the right person can lift you up and inspire nations. Whoever wrote this phrase clearly was not privy to how powerful words are. Whether the words are true or not, does not stop someone else from believing a lie about you or a truth. The words in songs tell your whole life story, without you ever telling your story to the artist. Words are important to our way of living.

Words make up a story and stories can change your perspective on every and anything you are dealing with. That is why people who have a way with words are considered having a gift. It is very important, what you say and how you say it. It is important that you use words to tell or create your own story. So, no one can use their words to hurt you. We believe the stories and we believe the lies because we have not spoken positive words to replace them.

Watch what you say..your words are a presentation of what you think..So..think/speak wisely.
